ISLAMABAD: Former Director General of ISI, Faiz Hameed, has submitted an appeal challenging the sentence imposed by a military court. His legal representative, Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed this development, stating that the appeal against the court’s decision was formally filed on December 27. However, Ashfaq refrained from disclosing additional details about the case.
It is noteworthy that the Federal Court Martial had earlier sentenced retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed to 14 years of imprisonment on charges involving violations of the Official Secrets Act, abuse of authority, and contraventions of the Pakistan Army Act.
During a press briefing on December 11 (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry outlined the military court’s verdict. He revealed that investigations under the Pakistan Army Act were launched against Faiz Hameed on August 12, 2024. Following a thorough inquiry spanning 15 months, the court delivered its judgment.
In accordance with Section 133-B of the Pakistan Army Act, Faiz Hameed was granted a 40-day window to appeal the Field General Court Martial’s verdict from the day the decision was announced.
By law, such appeals are reviewed by a Court of Appeals formed under the authority of the Army Chief. After considering the appeal, the Army Chief holds the discretion to either approve or deny it, suspend the sentence, or modify it as deemed appropriate.
