Four prisoners from Guantanamo Bay jail shifted to Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON: Four prisoners from Guantanamo Bay jail have been shifted to Saudi Arabia in the wee hours of Friday.

According to the details, United States (US) President Barack Obama wanted to evacuate the Guantanamo Bay jail ahead of president-elect Donald Trump assume the office. Pentagon said in a statement that US is grateful to Saudi Arabia for its humanitarian gesture and willingness to support ongoing US efforts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. There are 60 prisoners in Guantanamo Bay jail now.

While Trump said in a tweet, “There should be no further release from Gitmo. These are extremely dangerous people and should not be allowed back onto the battlefield.”

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that Trump’s pronouncement would have no effect on Obama’s decision. Obama wanted to shift at least 20 prisoners form Guantanamo jail to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other countries.
