Freelancers will register VPN by using their mobile number

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday launched a new initiative to facilitate freelancers by enabling VPN registration through mobile numbers.

Freelancers previously faced significant challenges when trying to register VPNs, as they were required to provide a static IP address—a barrier for those without access to such an address. However, a new update has made it easier for individuals without a static IP to register their VPNs by using their mobile number, enabling them to access VPN services through mobile data.

This change is seen as a positive move to support the IT industry and enhance internet security measures. According to a spokesperson from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the decision was made to simplify the registration process, ensuring that freelancers can continue their work without being hindered by technical obstacles.

The updated system allows freelancers to register their mobile numbers on the PTA portal, completing the VPN registration process more efficiently. Users can access the registration portal at [https://ipregistration.pta.gov.pk], where they will need to provide their mobile number and other necessary details to complete the registration.

Since the introduction of this system, over 31,000 VPNs have been successfully registered through PTA, highlighting the success and demand for this new facility. This initiative is part of the PTA’s broader efforts to regulate internet usage, combat illegal online content, and simultaneously support the growth of the country’s IT sector.
