Fuel prices expected to drop significantly from December 16, with Diesel leading the decline

ISLAMABAD: According to informed sources, Pakistan is likely to see a notable reduction in petroleum prices starting December 16, with potential cuts of up to Rs 11.85 per litre, as per initial calculations for petroleum products

The most considerable decrease is anticipated in the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD), which may be reduced by Rs 11.85 per litre, bringing the new rate close to Rs 270.80 per litre.In addition, Kerosene Oil could see a reduction of Rs 11.70 per litre, lowering its price to around Rs 181.16. Light Diesel Oil (LDO) prices may decline by Rs 10.10 per litre, with the new rate estimated at Rs 153.76.

Petrol (Motor Spirit) is expected to experience the smallest decrease, with a potential cut of Rs 0.36 per litre.The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is scheduled to submit its final review on petroleum pricing to the Finance Ministry on December 15. The Petroleum Division will then announce the revised prices for the upcoming fortnight after receiving approval from the Prime Minister.

This potential adjustment follows a previous fortnightly reduction, where petrol prices were decreased by Rs 2 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs 263.45. High-Speed Diesel was also made cheaper by Rs 4.79 per litre, now costing Rs 279.65.The government’s routine review process aims to provide relief to consumers amid ongoing global oil market volatility. Officials continue to monitor fuel prices closely, given the fluctuating international trends.

Earlier forecasts indicated that petrol prices might fall by Rs 3.70 per litre, with diesel potentially decreasing by Rs 4.28. Kerosene oil and Light Diesel Oil were also expected to see reductions of Rs 0.73 and Rs 6.35 per litre, respectively.OGRA was expected to send its pricing recommendations to the Petroleum Division tomorrow, with the final decision resting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The revised prices are projected to come into effect from Monday, December 1, 2025.
