Fuel prices expected to increase in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Federal government has decided to increase the prices of fuel during the upcoming review.

Preliminary calculations, based on recent shifts in international oil markets, have already been prepared. These estimates suggest that petrol prices could see an increase of up to Rs6.60 per liter, while high-speed diesel (HSD) may be raised by Rs5.27 per liter.

Conversely, kerosene is projected to become more affordable by Rs3.74 per liter, and light diesel oil (LDO) could possibly see a reduction of Rs2.23 per liter.

A detailed summary outlining the proposed price modifications will be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office today. The final decision will be made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, after which the Ministry of Finance will officially announce the revised rates.

Once approved, these new prices will be effective for a period of 15 days.Previously, on July 1, the federal government increased petrol prices for the upcoming two weeks, raising the cost by Rs8.36 per liter.

According to a notification from the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol was increased by Rs14.80 per liter, bringing the new rate to Rs266.89. Similarly, the cost of high-speed diesel was raised by Rs10.39 per liter, with the new rate set at Rs272.98.

It is noteworthy that the government delayed the usual announcement of petroleum product price adjustments, missing the customary midnight deadline for the revision.
