ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court to hold full court reference for Justice Musarrat Hilali on Aug 7 .The Supreme Court of Pakistan will organise a full court reference on August 7 to pay tribute to Justice Musarrat Hilali as she retires after reaching the constitutional age limit.
According to an official notification issued on Monday, the ceremony will begin at 10:30am in Courtroom No. 1 of the Supreme Court in Islamabad and will be chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
The event will be attended by all Supreme Court judges, the Attorney General for Pakistan, representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council, the Supreme Court Bar Association, and members of the legal community.
Speakers are expected to acknowledge Justice Hilali’s contributions to the judiciary, the rule of law and public service.
Justice Hilali, born on August 8, 1961, will retire on August 7, 2026, upon attaining the age of 65 as prescribed under the Constitution.
She achieved a historic milestone in April 2023 by becoming the first woman Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. A few months later, in July 2023, she was elevated to the Supreme Court, becoming the first judge from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and only the second woman to serve on Pakistan’s highest court.
Beginning her legal career as an advocate in 1983, Justice Hilali went on to become Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first female Additional Advocate General. She also served as the province’s Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment and held key positions as secretary and vice-president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association before joining the judiciary.
