GHQ attack case: ATC denies lawyers’ plea to meet Imran Khan

RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has denied a request from lawyers seeking permission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with the GHQ attack case.

The case, linked to the May 9 GHQ attack, was heard by ATC Judge Ahmad Ali Shah. During the session, lawyer Faisal Malik appealed to the court to grant the legal team access to Imran Khan for consultation purposes. However, the prosecution strongly opposed this request.

Prosecutor Syed Zaheer Shah contended that Imran Khan is not a listed suspect in the case and remains under the custody of prison authorities. He emphasized that decisions regarding visits to prisoners fall exclusively under the purview of jail officials, not the court.

After considering the prosecution’s argument, Judge Amjad Ali Shah ruled against the lawyers’ application, stating that the court lacks authority over matters concerning prison visitations.
