Rawalpindi: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), was honored with a ceremonial guard of honour at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Representatives from the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force participated in the ceremony, marking his formal assumption of the newly established role of CDF.
The occasion drew the presence of prominent military leaders, including Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and high-ranking officials from all branches of the armed forces.
Organised to commemorate Field Marshal Asim Munir’s elevation to this groundbreaking position, the event underscored a transformative milestone in Pakistan’s defense landscape. He is a recipient of prestigious honors such as Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Hilal-e-Jurat, emblematic of his exemplary military career and leadership contributions.
The ceremony represented the institutional admiration for Field Marshal Munir’s enhanced responsibilities in steering defense coordination at the top echelon.
Last Friday, the Ministry of Defense officially announced his appointment following President Asif Ali Zardari’s approval on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Field Marshal Munir, who earlier this year became only the second Field Marshal in Pakistan’s history after the nation’s success in the May conflict with India, will continue in his dual role as COAS for a term spanning five years.
