ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government is considering a change in the schedule for presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Originally scheduled for June 10, the budget presentation may now be postponed to June 12 or 13. Due to the Eid -ul-Adha holidays, the government will also need to declare June 9 as a working day, as the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting and the Economic Survey are set to be released on that day.
Sources indicate that, holding the NEC meeting and presenting the budget on the same day is unlikely, which could lead to a two-day extension for the budget announcement.
The NEC meeting, which involves all provincial Chief Ministers , Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan.
Furthermore, traditionally, there is a two-day gap between the NEC meeting and the budget presentation. This practice is a key reason for the potential shift in the budget’s schedule.
The Ministry of Finance’s sources suggest that the government may further extend the timeline by two days to ensure all formalities are properly completed before the budget is presented.
