Government to Step Up Action Against Illegal Foreign Residents

ISLAMABAD: The government has resolved to intensify operations targeting foreign nationals residing illegally in Pakistan.The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Counter-Terrorism and Harden the State Committees in Islamabad, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. 

Minister Naqvi announced that NADRA will establish real-time data verification facilities at border exit points to bolster enforcement efforts. He emphasised the importance of coordinated action among federal and provincial agencies to fully implement the “One Document Regime” and eradicate illegal residency across the country.

Highlighting the need for stronger measures against the beggar mafia, Naqvi called for declaring begging a non-bailable offence, underscoring the importance of addressing this social issue decisively.On the matter of electricity theft, the Interior Minister assured that all necessary support is being extended to the Ministry of Energy and provincial authorities to curb power pilferage. He revealed that, through collaborative efforts, approximately Rs. 142 billion has been recovered from illegal activities so far.

The meeting also reviewed progress on anti-encroachment operations and the establishment of the Pakistan Port Authority. Discussions included updates on the ‘Gwadar City Safe City Project’ and the construction of a protective wall to enhance security.Furthermore, officials provided updates on the deployment of digital enforcement stations along the Indus River, and ongoing development of an Intelligent Transportation System aimed at improving monitoring on motorways and major highways. Efforts to digitise petrol pumps to prevent the sale of illegal and smuggled fuel were also reviewed.

This comprehensive approach underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening national security, economic stability, and law enforcement across the country.
