KARACHI: Key negotiations between the government and transportation stakeholders have reached a positive conclusion.
According to a transport leader, the government demonstrated flexibility on several issues, and the strike will be officially called off once the formal notification is issued.
Malik Shehzad Awan, a prominent figure among Pakistan’s goods transporters, held a press conference at Gulbai Truck Stand, emphasizing that transporters nationwide have been protesting for the past ten days. The ongoing strike has significantly disrupted the supply chain, affecting the delivery of raw materials to various industries.
He further stated that Sindh province had expressed its willingness to fulfill all demands, but the protest will persist until a written agreement is finalized.
Sources within the transport sector revealed that the announcement to end the strike is imminent, likely to be made after the signing of the agreement at Huck’s Bay Truck Stand.
The strike has caused major setbacks in industrial operations, with raw material supplies halted across many sectors. Hamad Poonawalla, President of Iron Merchants, expressed concern that continued disruption could force factory closures and lead to substantial financial losses. He highlighted that traders involved in importing iron and other goods are incurring losses running into billions of rupees due to the ongoing transportation crisis.
