Govt announces financial assistance for flood victims’ families

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a compensation of 2 million rupees for the families of those who lost their lives in the recent floods.

Federal Minister for Information, Attaullah Tarar, also warned that no compensation will be provided for buildings that have collapsed due to illegal construction. He stated that it would not be possible to compensate those living along water channels or waterways.

In a statement to journalists in Jhelum, the federal minister said that the government has decided that no new constructions will be permitted in flood-prone waterway areas in the future. A survey is currently underway to assess damages to homes, crops, and livestock caused by the floods.

Attaullah Tarar mentioned that for the first time, three to four weather systems have arrived simultaneously, causing widespread flooding. Over 200,000 people have been rescued from the rising waters of three rivers. The Pakistan Army and local authorities responded promptly, saving many lives.
