ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has officially approved the revised Hajj Policy for 2026, marking a significant shift in the government’s approach to managing the pilgrimage and increasing its financial contribution.

Under the new framework, the government will oversee 70% of the Hajj quota, a notable change from the initial proposal by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which had suggested a split of 40% government and 60% private sector management. The remaining 30% will be allocated to four private tour operators.

Sources indicate that the estimated cost for pilgrims participating in the government scheme this year will fall between Rs. 1.15 million and Rs. 1.25 million. The move reflects Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s personal involvement in restructuring the quota system, with a focus on making Hajj more affordable and accessible to a larger segment of the population.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Yousaf, is expected to officially unveil the complete Hajj policy during a press conference in the coming days. This revised plan aims to facilitate broader access while maintaining quality standards for pilgrims.
