ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved a grant of Rs. 1.31 billion for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct local government by-elections across the country.
The approval was made during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The meeting also reviewed and approved various proposals from different sectors.
According to a press statement, the ECC approved a summary from the ECP for a grant of Rs. 1.317 billion to support the local government by-elections in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, as well as local government elections in Islamabad and Punjab. The ECP scheduled to hold these by-elections on November 14.
In addition, the ECC approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs. 16.995 billion for the Ministry of Communications (Postal Services Wing) to settle verified pending liabilities of companies and agency partners associated with the Pakistan Post Office Department.
The ECC also reviewed five separate summaries from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), aligned with the FBR Transformation Plan that earlier approved by the Prime Minister. It decided that the Revenue Division and Finance Division would collaborate to finalize the mechanics, including budget allocation and release, for these five proposals.
