Islamabad: The government on Thursday challenged the anti-terrorism court verdict in the Parliament attack case in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against acquittal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan and other party leaders which include vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar and Pervez Khattak during the 2014 PTI’s sit-in against then PML-N government.
The government in its appeal insisted the IHC to declare the verdict null and void regarding removal of all charges against the PTI chairman and its leaders.
The appeal said that there are enough documentary and video evidences against Imran Khan for committing crime.
The trial court acquitted Imran Khan by neglecting statements of a number of eyewitnesses while the public prosecutor against the law supported acquittal of Imran Khan, the appeal said.
The trial court set free Imran Khan and PTI leaders for all the charges in the parliament attack case without noticing and listening to the affectees of the incident.
The anti terrorism court verdict was against the law and the trial court judgement was announced in a hurry, hence, declare it null and void, the appeal adopted the point of view.
It is pertinent to mention here that the anti-terrorism court announced the verdict in the parliament attack case on October 29, 2020 and acquitted the PTI chairman Imran Khan and other PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar and Pervaiz Khattak.
The government has also challenged the acquittal of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar and Pervez Khattak in the case besides its Chairman Imran Khan.
