Govt disowns Hashmi statement, Says ‘It is Personal Opinion’

Islamabad (May 31, 2017): The government disowned Senator Nihal Hashmi’s statement threatening those grilling Prime Minister’s son of consequences.

Soon after a video of Hashmi address, wherein he threaten those grilling the PM’s son, surfaced, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryum Aurangzaib came forward and announced that the government had nothing to do with the statement of Hashmi.

She said that the statement was deplorable. She added that the statement was Hashmi’s personal onion and not the policy of the government or Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The minister said that PML-N respected all constitutional and legal institutions. she added that the government and Sharif family had nothing to do with the stamen of Nihal Hashmi.

Aurangzaib said that the government firmly believed in supremacy of constition and law.

Speaking on behalf of the ruling PML-N said the party does not support what Hashmi said, and that it was his “personal opinion”, Radio Pakistan reported.

She said the prime minister believes in accountability, adding that he has sought an explanation from Hashmi.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s House also took notice of Nihal Hashmi’s statement. According to reports, explanation was sought from Hashmir over the threats he hurled at those questioning the PM’s son.

It is to be mentioned here that a video of Hashmir, in which he appears to be addressing supporters, surfaced wherein he warned that they would not spare those who are making the PM’s son accountable.

“Those grilling… [be warned that] we will arrange the day of judgment for you.”

“For those and their children we will make the land of Pakistan difficult to live in,” he added, without taking any names.

Earlier, the PM’s elder son had objected to the inclusion of two members — Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Bilal Rasool and State Bank of Pakistan’s Amer Aziz — in the JIT, accusing them of being close to the PML-N’s political rivals. However, his objections were turned down by the Supreme Court.

However, the objections were dismissed by the special bench of Apex Court.
