ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased the petroleum levy by Rs.10 per liter, notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the petroleum levy on petrol has been raised from 60 to 70 rupees per liter.
The levy on diesel has also been increased by 10 rupees per liter, raising it from 60 rupees to 70 rupees per liter. According to the notification, this increase in the petroleum levy on petrol will be effective from today.
It is worth noting that the federal government had announced in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025 that the petroleum levy would be increased from 60 rupees per liter to 80 rupees. However, the government had decided to impose the levy in phases, adding 20 rupees per liter at a time.
Globally, a decrease in the prices of petroleum products is being observed. If the current increase in the petroleum levy had not been implemented, the public could have benefited from a reduction of up to 10 rupees in the price of petrol.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that the prices of petroleum products will remain unchanged for the next 15 days.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, by keeping the prices of petroleum products unchanged, the government is preparing to provide relief to the public by reducing electricity prices. A package regarding the reduction in electricity rates will be announced in the coming weeks. The Prime Minister will soon inform the nation about this proposed relief.
