Govt promises continuous electricity, gas supply during Sehr and Iftar

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has assured the public that there will be no interruptions in electricity and gas services during Sehr and Iftar hours throughout Ramazan. This commitment was announced by Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik during a press conference held in Islamabad today.

Awais Leghari stated that the decision was made under the direct instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to provide relief to citizens across the nation. He explained that, after thorough assessments, the Power and Petroleum Divisions have put in place comprehensive arrangements to prevent power and gas outages during the fasting hours.

The Minister emphasized that even in areas with high transmission losses or technical sensitivities, electricity supply will be maintained without interruption during Sehri and Iftar. In case of any significant technical faults, prompt measures will be taken to restore services swiftly, ensuring minimal inconvenience to consumers.

To oversee the situation, a dedicated control room has been set up to monitor all electricity feeders nationwide. Consumers are encouraged to report any issues via the helpline number 118, and assurances were given that all complaints will be addressed efficiently.

Meanwhile, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik highlighted that the government has coordinated with gas pipeline operators to ensure maximum pressure and consistent gas supply from 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. Additional gas volumes have been arranged based on lessons learned from previous winters to enhance reliability.

He also announced that specialized control rooms have been established at the headquarters of gas companies, and regional offices have been instructed to closely monitor the distribution network, especially at the tail-end areas, to guarantee an uninterrupted gas supply. Consumers can report problems related to gas via helpline number 1199.
