ISLAMABAD: The government announced on Friday an increase in the salaries of the National Assembly Speaker and Senate Chairman.
According to official details, the monthly remuneration for both the NA Speaker and Senate Chairman has been increased by 500%, elevating their new salaries to Rs1.3 million. A formal notification confirming the revision was issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.The new salary structure will take effect from January 1, 2025. Prior to this adjustment, both officials held a monthly salary of Rs205,000.
In addition, the government previously approved a substantial salary hike of Rs519,000 for Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and Senators.Sources within the National Assembly indicated that the salary increase for MNAs was aligned with the pay scale of a federal secretary.
NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq signed the official order approving the salary enhancement for MNAs.
Parliamentary insiders shared that lawmakers initially requested a further increase, aiming for Rs1 million per month, but Speaker Ayaz Sadiq rejected this proposal and finalized the salary at Rs519,000. With this raise, MNAs now enjoy benefits and privileges comparable to those of federal secretaries, significantly boosting their financial perks.
