Govt, Sugar Industry Reach Deal ‘Sugar Price set at 165 rupees per kilogram’

ISLAMABAD: An agreement has been reached between the government and the sugar industry, decided to fix sugar price at the rate of 165 per kg

According to the Ministry of Food Security, the ex-factory price of sugar has been fixed at 165 rupees per kilogram. The Ministry has advised provincial governments to ensure the availability of affordable sugar in light of this decision.

Meanwhile, the ongoing trend of rising sugar prices continues across the country, including Karachi and Peshawar, with the price reaching up to 200 rupees per kilogram.

It is worth noting that the government has decided to export 500,000 tons of sugar in an effort to control prices. A formal tender has already been issued for this purpose. However, Fawad Hassan Fawad, a former caretaker federal minister and close associate of Nawaz Sharif, has opposed the government’s decision to import sugar and has called for a review of the plan.
