Govt to enforce vehicle without E-Tag entry ban in Islamabad following suicide bombing

ISLAMABAD: In response to the recent deadly suicide bombing near the Judicial Complex that resulted in 12 fatalities and numerous injuries, the federal government has announced plans to prohibit vehicles without electronic identification tags (E-tags) from entering Islamabad.

Minister of State for Interior, Senator Talal Chaudhry, made the announcement during a press briefing outside Parliament on Thursday, flanked by IG Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon.

Chaudhry explained that the government will initiate a “Secure Neighborhood Survey,” a pioneering effort aimed at strengthening safety measures across the capital. “This survey will help authorities identify residents, employees, and shop or office owners in every household and establishment,” he stated.

He further disclosed that in the upcoming phase, all vehicles entering Islamabad must be equipped with E-tags. “No vehicle will be permitted entry without an E-tag. This step will enable authorities to track vehicle movements comprehensively and bolster city security,” he emphasized. These security enhancements follow a suicide attack near the Judicial Complex on Tuesday, which killed at least 12 people and injured more than a dozen others.

According to security officials, the attacker has been identified as an Afghan national, with a facilitator linked to Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, also involved in the plot. The suspect was detained during a search operation following the explosion.

Authorities have detained five individuals from different areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad as part of the investigation. Efforts are underway to determine their roles and possible connections to the attacker.Preliminary investigations indicate that the suicide bomber arrived at the district courts on a motorcycle booked through a ride-hailing service. The motorcycle rider has also been taken into custody for questioning.
