Govt to reduce petrol prices as globaly oil prices decline

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the government is committed to passing on the benefit of declining global oil prices to the public, assuring that petroleum prices will be reduced further whenever international market trends allow.

Speaking to the media in Lahore’s Bhogaywal area on Sunday, the minister said no formal letter had been received from oil marketing companies regarding fuel pricing. However, he confirmed that company representatives met with him to discuss their concerns, which were heard by the ministry.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed him not to bow to any pressure while serving the public, emphasizing that all pricing decisions will be made in the interest of consumers.

The petroleum minister acknowledged the burden rising fuel prices had placed on citizens, saying people across the country had endured a difficult period. He expressed optimism that the situation was improving, adding that better days were ahead.

He noted that the government had already implemented a significant cut in petrol and diesel prices, claiming the reduction exceeded the decline seen in international markets. He also said relief had been provided through adjustments in the petroleum levy to further ease the burden on consumers.
