Govt working on poverty alleviation, welfare schemes: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says Pakistan stands united with the world on the occasion of International Charity Day to highlight the importance of donations, charity and harmony in the field of social welfare.

In his message on International Charity Day today, he said the history of Pakistan is a testament that people of Pakistan feel pride to extend the selfless assistance to others irrespective of religion, creed and colour.

The Prime Minister termed the sincere passion for serving others as an asset of social and cultural values of Pakistan.

Highlighting the services of volunteers of country, Shehbaz Sharif said they always extended overwhelming practical and financial assistance to their countrymen in times of calamities, natural disasters, war, and other emergencies.

He further said the philanthropists of our society are generously providing services like free treatment, free meals, and free ambulance service through donations.

The Prime Minister said the Government of Pakistan is also successfully working on various poverty alleviation and welfare schemes including Benazir Income Support Program, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Zakat, Employees Old Age Benefit Institution, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority.

Shehbaz Sharif called upon Pakistanis living within the country and abroad to lend a helping hand in relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas.
