ISLAMABAD: The Petrol Pumps Owners Association and the Dealers Association have announced the postponement of their planned strike scheduled for tomorrow.
In an official statement, the Pakistan Petrol Dealers Association stated that the strike has been deferred following government assurances to increase the profit margins for petrol dealers. Based on these commitments, they have decided to suspend their protest.
Nadeem Khan, Secretary of Information for the Petrol Pumps Owners Association, said that they have been assured that their demands will be met. He expressed hope that within two weeks, the issues related to dealer commissions will be resolved. Additionally, he mentioned that a trial period of two weeks will be initiated for the daily pricing system.
Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik also confirmed that assurances have been given to resolve the petrol pump and dealer issues within two weeks. If the problems are not addressed within this timeframe, the government will hold further discussions with the representatives to find solutions.
Addressing concerns about profiteering, Malik stated that the government does not wish to be accused of facilitating unjust profits. He explained that as petrol prices increase globally, they will also decrease accordingly, and efforts are underway to transparently pass on these benefits to the public as per the established formula.
