Gulalai’s Disqualification, IHC Reserves Judgment

Islamabad (September 22, 2017): Islamabad High Court has reserved judgment about the maintainability of the petition seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf’s dissident Member of National Assembly Ayesha Gualali.

Petitioner Kulsoom Khaliq advocate arguing her case before the court said that Gulalai leveled baseless allegations on chairman PTI Imran Khan on the floor of the assembly without taking any legal action.

Arguing that Gulalai is not competent to hold the National Assembly seat under the Peoples Representation Act because she insulted the peoples mandate the petitioner pleads the court to declare her unqualified and directed to vacate the seat.

During the hearing of the petition that names Election Commission Pakistan, Speaker National Assembly, and Gulalai as respondents Justice Amir Farooq asked the petitioner isn’t the issue at hand is personal in nature.It may be mentioned that earlier Ayesha Gulalai appeared with her lawyer at the hearing of the reference at Election Commission that seeks her de-seating as member of National Assembly. In her reply submitted to the Commission she called allegations made against her by Imran Khan baseless and misleading and the said reference malafide.
