KARACHI: Search and rescue efforts at the site of the collapsed Gul Plaza entered their ninth day on Saturday, as teams recovered additional human remains from the wreckage.
Personnel from Rescue 1122 and Urban Search and Rescue continue to clear debris in an effort to trace those still unaccounted for. Officials said the latest remains were found on the building’s third floor and were transported to Civil Hospital Karachi, where DNA analysis will be carried out for identification.
Authorities have so far confirmed at least 71 fatalities resulting from the tragedy. Rescue officials warned that the death toll may rise further, as large portions of rubble are yet to be removed.
Despite the prolonged operation, emergency teams remain stationed at the site, working around the clock to recover any remaining victims and complete the clearance process.
