Gvot giving Rs27bn subsidy to farmers on electricity bills: Rashid

ISLAMABAD:   Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid has said that the government was giving Rs27 billion to Wapda for providing subsidy to farmers in electricity bills.

Talking to Media in Islamabad on Wednesday, the minister criticized Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah, saying that the sugarcane growers of Sindh were crying.  He said that in Sindh cane growers’ trawlers were stopped deliberately so to lessen the weight of canes.

 He said that electricity, fertilizer and petroleum products were available on a very low prices to the farmers. He said that after Eighteenth Amendment agriculture department had been transferred to the provinces

He asked the opposition leader what benefits are being provided in Sindh province while the federal and Punjab government are providing subsidies on electricity, fertilizer and petroleum products.  He said the government has paid five thousand rupees per acre assistance package for farmers and they received this support without any corruption, while farmers in Sindh are still awaiting this assistance by Sindh government.
