Hamas confirms direct negotiations with U.S. for hostage release

GAZA: Palestinian resistance organization Hamas has confirmed direct negotiations with the United States for the release of hostages.

According to a International media news, Hamas official stated on the condition of anonymity that direct negotiations were held with a U.S. envoy regarding the release of hostages.

The Hamas official mentioned that discussions took place with the U.S. envoy concerning Israeli prisoners holding American citizenship, and multiple conversations have occurred between Hamas and various U.S. communication channels.

A senior Hamas official has stated that in recent days, there have been two direct meetings between Hamas and U.S. officials in Doha.

It is worth mentioning that prior to this, an American news website revealed that the U.S. government has made direct secret contact with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas for the release of hostages in Gaza.

Sources have informed US media that negotiations took place in Doha over the past weeks, led by US President’s special envoy Adam Bohler.

Subsequently, the White House also confirmed that an American envoy engaged in direct talks with Hamas to secure the release of American hostages.

According to the Israeli military, there are still 59 hostages in the possession of Hamas, of which the deaths of 35 have been confirmed, while there is a possibility that 22 are still alive. Among the hostages are 5 American citizens.

Meanwhile, the first phase of the 42-day ceasefire in Gaza ended last week, and the parties have not been able to agree on an extension.
