Hamas presents key demands for Gaza ceasefire agreement

GAZA: The Palestinian resistance organization Hamas has expressed its desire for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza based on U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan. However, the group has emphasized that certain fundamental demands must be met.

Senior Hamas leader Fawzi Barhoum, in a statement marking the two-year anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, stated that Hamas’s delegation in Egypt is working to overcome all obstacles to reach an agreement that fulfills the aspirations of the people of Gaza.

He clarified that any ceasefire deal must include guarantees for the complete end of the war and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza—conditions that Israel has previously rejected. Fawzi Barhoum further stated that Hamas seeks a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, unconditional entry of humanitarian and relief supplies, immediate return of displaced Palestinians to their homes, prisoner exchange, and Gaza’s reconstruction overseen by a Palestinian technical experts’ administration.

He also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning against efforts aimed at sabotaging the ongoing negotiations, similar to previous attempts that deliberately undermined past ceasefire agreements.

It is noteworthy that indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas for a Gaza ceasefire began yesterday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh.
