ISLAMABAD: Former interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar engaged in a heated exchange with ruling PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi regarding the wheat import controversy.
The altercation reportedly took place at a private hotel between Abbasi and Kakar. Kakar challenged Abbasi, insinuating that PML-N leaders would feel ashamed and attempt to conceal their identities if he were to disclose undisclosed information concerning the Election Commission of Pakistan’s Form-47.
In response, Abbasi accused Kakar of complicity in the wheat scandal. Kakar defended himself by asserting that he stands by the statements he made on a television program.
The PML-N is under scrutiny for the wheat crisis in Punjab. The current administration has attributed blame to the interim government for unnecessary wheat imports and subsequently reducing procurement targets, a move that has garnered criticism, particularly from farmers.
Moreover, the government’s stringent response, including the harassment and arrest of protesters, has exacerbated the situation. This has further exacerbated the food supply crisis in Punjab, prompting concern from farmers and opposition parties.
