Supreme Court has de-listed all cases related to the incidents of May 9 and 10

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the Punjab government’s appeals for the cancellation of bail for the accused in the events of May 9, which was scheduled for this week.

The Supreme Court has de-listed all cases scheduled for May 9 and 10 for the current and upcoming week.

Lawyer Zulfiqar Naqvi appeared before the court and stated that the Punjab government has appointed him as the lawyer for the cases related to May 9. He requested the Supreme Court for additional time to prepare.

In response, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi remarked that the cases from May 9 are scheduled for hearing tomorrow and the day after.

In previous sessions, the additional prosecutor has repeatedly requested time, and today you are asking for time as well. This situation cannot continue; this is not just a single case but nearly 50 appeals.

At this moment, the lawyer representing the Punjab government suggested postponing this week’s cases and coming back next week prepared.

In response, the Chief Justice indicated that some appeals are also related to case transfers, and the matter regarding case transfers has already been concluded. He advised the lawyer to seek instructions from the government on this issue.

Subsequently, the court approved the Punjab government’s request for an extension, after which all cases will be heard after Eid by a three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
