KARACHI: From September 7 to 10, intermittent heavy rains are expected in Sindh, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi and other cities.
According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure system is currently over the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is expected to reach Sindh’s regions bordering Rajasthan by September 6. This system may bring intense monsoon winds to eastern Sindh and Punjab starting September 6.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that between September 7 and 10, heavy rainfall may occur in various districts including Tharparkar, Mithi, Islamkot, Nangarparkar, Chachro, Diplo, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mitiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Tando Allayar, Badin, Sajawal, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kashmore, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki, and Karachi.
There is a risk of flooding in the low-lying areas of Karachi due to heavy rains. Other areas such as Mirpur Khas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Tando Allayar, Badin, Sajawal, and Hyderabad could also experience waterlogging.
The Meteorological Department also predicts rainfall in several districts of Balochistan. Additionally, rainfall is expected in many districts of Punjab, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, between September 6 and 8.The department has warned that the ongoing rains could worsen the situation in flood-affected areas of Punjab. There is also a risk of overflowing streams and nullahs, potentially leading to floods.
