Helicopter Case: NAB Summons Imran Khan On August 7

Peshawar (August 03, 2018): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Peshawar Chapter on Friday summoned PTI Chairman Imran Khan on August 7 in an ongoing inquiry against his alleged misuse of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s helicopters.

“Imran used two helicopters belonging to the KP government for a total of 74 hours,” NAB officials said.

“Statements of former KP CM Pervez Khattak and aviation authorities in the case have been recorded,” the NAB official said.

The PTI chairman is accused of illegally using a Mi-17 and an Ecureuil helicopter belonging to the KP government for a total of 74 hours, causing a loss of Rs2.1 million to the national exchequer.

Earlier on July 18, Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Imran Khan excused from appearing before NAB in Helicopter Scandal.

According to the details, the junior advocate of Babar Awan submitted the plea in the NAB on behalf of Imran Khan, stating that he is busy in the election campaign.

A new date should be fixed for the recording of statement after general elections, said Imran in the statement.

Imran Khan is accused of illegally using the KP helicopters for 74 hours that caused loss of Rs. 2107181 to the national exchequer. The NAB Bureau will inquire Imran Khan of unlawfully using the government helicopter.

Inquiry regarding misuse of the helicopter is continuing and former KP CM Parvez Khattak had already appeared in the NAB court.

Earlier on March 08, following instructions from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Javed Iqbal, the accountability body’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wing obtained details of Imran Khan’s use of government helicopters from the provincial administration department.

Sources added that NAB KP was also provided the purchase agreement for the helicopters and also the rules and regulations for the usage of the aircraft.Similar trips using a private helicopter would have cost the PTI chairperson tens of millions of rupees, according to estimates.

Khan used the Mi-17 for 21 hours 50 minutes on 12 trips amounting to a recorded expense of Rs1,270,307.

Similarly, he used the Ecureuil helicopter 28 times for a total of 52 hours and 5 minutes, amounting to a recorded expense of Rs836,875.

Combined, Khan used both helicopters for a total of 73 hours and 55 minutes, resulting in an expense of Rs2,107,181 recorded by the provincial government.The PTI chief, whose party governs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, used the helicopters to fly to and from Bani Gala, Islamabad, Mardan, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swat and Nathiagali, Kohat, Batagram, and Chakdara, among other places.

NAB Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal on February 2 took notice of the scandal of misuse by Imran Khan of two helicopters of the KP government for about 74 hours.
