High court orders reclamation of official vehicles from grade 20 and 21 officers in historic ruling

LAHORE: For the first time in Lahore High Court’s 150-year history, a significant decision has been made to reduce official expenses. Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelum, has issued important directives aimed at promoting financial discipline within the judicial system and conserving public resources.

Under this revolutionary measure, official vehicles assigned to Grade 20 and 21 officers will be repossessed, and instead, they will be provided with a fixed monthly allowance for fuel and repairs. A formal monetization policy has also been introduced, which was issued with the approval of Chief Justice Aalia Neelum.

According to the policy, Grade 20 officers will receive a monthly allowance of 65,960 rupees, while Grade 21 officers will be given 77,430 rupees for fuel and vehicle repairs. The decision regarding allowances for Grade 19 officers will be made after consultations with the Finance Department. Sources indicate that this initiative will save millions of rupees monthly, which previously was spent on fuel and maintenance of official vehicles.

Additionally, there is a possibility of revising the policy for supporting a motorcycle and 50 liters of petrol for court attendants who have served for five years. Chief Justice Alia Neelum’s reform efforts aim to provide timely justice to litigants while promoting transparency and frugality within the judicial system.
