ISLAMABAD: A potential telephone conversation between Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), could take place as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
According to media reports, the conversation aims to address the deadlock between the two cricket boards.
The report further indicates that Jay Shah has arrived at the ICC headquarters in Dubai, where he is scheduled to meet with ICC officials. Discussions concerning the Champions Trophy are expected to be a key topic of these talks.
Sources reveal that the PCB remains steadfast in its refusal to accept the proposed hybrid model, which suggests that India could play its group-stage matches at neutral venues. PCB has made it clear that if India refuses to send its team to Pakistan, Pakistan will also boycott any matches against India.
India, on the other hand, has already refused to travel to Pakistan to participate in the tournament. This standoff has led to a deadlock, with Pakistan holding firm on its opposition to the hybrid model. The lack of agreement has delayed the official announcement of the tournament schedule. The ICC is facing growing pressure from broadcasters to finalize and release the schedule soon. If India-Pakistan matches are excluded from the tournament, the ICC could face legal challenges from broadcasters, further complicating the situation
