ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: Pakistan choose to field after winning toss against India

COLOMBO: Pakistan opted to bowl first after winning the toss against arch-rivals India in their high-voltage T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha said the surface appeared slightly tacky and could assist bowlers early in the innings. Calling it a “big occasion,” he added that the team remained calm, focused, and ready for the challenge. Pakistan have retained the same playing XI from their previous match.

The much-anticipated encounter has generated massive excitement, with tickets completely sold out. Hotels across Colombo are fully booked, and room rates have surged due to unprecedented demand from fans traveling to witness the marquee showdown.

Historically, India have dominated Pakistan in T20 World Cup meetings. Of their eight previous encounters in the tournament, India have emerged victorious seven times, while Pakistan have managed just one win.

Weather Outlook

Weather conditions appear favorable for the blockbuster clash. According to forecasts, the likelihood of rain in Colombo has dropped to around 13 percent during the evening hours. While skies are expected to remain cloudy, no heavy rainfall is predicted during match time. Winds may reach 24 km/h, with humidity levels hovering around 68 percent.

Earlier projections had indicated an 80 percent chance of rain with possible intermittent showers, but updated forecasts suggest minimal disruption to play.
