ICC unlikely to relocate Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches from India

WEB DESK: The ICC is expected to respond soon to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to move their 2026 T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka over security concerns. This follows pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s release from IPL’s Kolkata Knight Riders, based on a safety advisory from the BCCI.

However, due to logistical challenges with the tournament starting February 7, a full relocation to Sri Lanka seems unlikely. Instead, the ICC is reportedly reviewing alternate venues within India, with Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram being considered. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and Kerala Cricket Association have expressed readiness to host matches.

At present, Bangladesh’s group matches are scheduled in Kolkata:

  • vs West Indies: February 7
  • vs Italy: February 9
  • vs England: February 14
