ICC World Cup: Who is the ‘Most-Experienced’ Captain?

LONDON: The ICC World Cup 2019 is set to begin in England on 30th May with 10 teams participating in the mega event.

Captains play a big role in the game of cricket and in a huge event like this, captaincy can make a lot of difference.

Only Eoin Morgan, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Jason Holder have led their side previously in the World Cup. This will be the first World Cup as a captain for Virat Kohli and six other skippers.

Eoin Morgan is the most experienced captain among all the others participation in the ICC World Cup as he led England team in 100 games. England have won 61 out of 100 ODI games under Morgan’s captaincy.This will be Mashrafe Mortaza’s second outing as captain of Bangladesh in the World Cup. Mortaza has led his side in 77 ODI games and won 47 of them.

Despite being the youngest captain at the World Cup, Jason Holder will be keen to repeat history at Lord’s, where West Indies won the World Cup in 1979. He led Windies in 74 ODI matches and only won 21 of them.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli will lead his side for the first time in the World Cup. Kohli led his side in 68 ODIs and won 49 of them.

Under the captaincy of Kane Williamson, New Zealand have won 34 out of 65 ODI games.

Sarfraz Ahmed, captain of Pakistan, has led his in 40 matches and won 21 of them. Pakistan also won Champions Trophy under his captaincy.South African skipper Faf Du Plessis led his side successfully as proteas have won 25 out of 30 games under his leadership.

Aaron Finch is among the seven captains who led their side for the first time in the World Cup. Finch led his side in 18 ODIs and claimed victories in 10 of them.

Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib and Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne will be the most inexperienced captain among all in the upcoming mega event as they only led their sides in three and one ODIs respectively.
