ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set a date for hearing the petitions seeking to suspend the sentences of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the £190 million corruption case.
The hearing is scheduled for September 25 before a two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi received their sentences from an accountability court on January 17. While the IHC previously ordered an expedited review process, the most recent hearing on their suspension requests was held on June 26, with no further developments since then.
This recent move follows Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, filing a plea with the Chief Justice’s chamber to prioritize the case’s hearing. PTI’s legal team, including Niazullah Niazi, Naeem Haider Panjotha, Khalid Yousaf ====ZChaudhry, Intizar Hussain Panjotha, and Ali Bukhari, were present during the court proceedings.
The case involves allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of authority related to a settlement of £190 million.
