Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) today decided not to indict Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan as he apologised to woman district magistrate judge Zeba Chaudhry while the court ordered ex-premier to submit his affidavit in the threat to woman magistrate case.
The larger bench of the IHC headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah and comprising Justice Baber Sattar, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard the contempt of court case against Imran Khan۔
The PTI chief Imran Khan reached the IHC along with his counsel Hamid Khan, the court assistants Makhdoom Ali Khan and Muneer A Malik.
Over hint of indictment by Chief Justice Athar Minallah, Hamid Khan insisted the court his client Imran Khan wanted to say something on the rostrum.
The court called Imran Khan on the rostrum at out set of the hearing while the former premier said to the court ” I don’t have any intention to contempt of court adding I can go to the woman judge to clarify his words as well”
Imran Khan apprised the court he struggled for 26 years for the independent judiciary while no one tries to supremacy of law.
The PTI chief went to say ” If the woman judge got hurt from my words so I apologies to her adding that if the court wanted more for being satisfied then tell what to do.”
To which the court said Imran Khan to submit his affidavit (written statement) while the court appreciated his statement and lauded it.
The court has to frame charges against the PTI chief and former premier Imran Khan today against his statement for a woman district magistrate, but after Imran Khan apology the court decided not to indict him.
The court has ordered Imran Khan to submit affidavit until September 29.
Honourable Chief Justice Athar Minallah said “you submit affidavit (written statement) we will see it and we will hold next proceeding,”
The court adjourned the hearing till October 3.
Earlier, a larger bench of the IHC issued a show-cause notice to Khan On August 23,after taking up contempt of court proceedings against him for threatening an additional sessions judge during the rally.
Imran Khan had staged a rally in the federal capital on August 20 to express solidarity with his chief of staff Shahbaz Gill after claims of torture inflicted on him in custody. He warned the Islamabad inspector-general and deputy inspector-general that he would “not spare” them, vowing to file cases against them for subjecting Gill to alleged inhuman torture.
Imran Khan then said she [the judge, Zeba Chaudhry] should brace herself for consequences.
