Islamabad (September 22, 2017): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the government to play its role to help stopping genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Myanmar.

The order was issued by Justice Amir Farooq of the IHC who heard the petition seeking severing diplomatic ties with Myanmar, former Burma.Petitioner Tariq Assad advocate, who argued his case before the court, also pleads the court to order government to expel Burmese ambassador along with his staff from Pakistan and to call back Pakistani ambassador and diplomatic staff from Burma.The petitioner also asks the court to direct government to take back Award for Democracy from Myanmar’s de facto ruler Aang Suu Kyi which was bestowed on her by Pakistan.It may be mentioned here that a rights group Human Rights Watch has demanded imposing sanctions and an arms embargo against the Myanmar military in response to an offensive that has forced 410,000 Rohingya Muslims fleeing to Bangladesh for safety. The United Nations has condemned the ongoing ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.The latest spasm of violence in western Myanmar’s Rakhine State began on August 25 after rumors of Rohingya insurgents attacking police posts and an army camp killing about 12 people.

Rights monitors and fleeing Rohingya Muslims say Myanmar security forces and Rakhine Buddhist vigilantes responded with what they describe as a campaign of violence and arson aimed at driving out the Muslim population.

Tariq Assad advocate Court disposed off the case directing the government to do all all that it could and to  play whatever role it can to help stop the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Myanmar.
