IHC Disposes Of Imran Khan Petition Against PEMRA Over Live Speech Ban

Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) disposed of the PTI chief Imran Khan petition against Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for banning his live speeches on the news channels of the country as the media regulatory body agreed with the court orders.

The IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the ex-premier Imran Khan petition against the PEMRA ban on his addresses to be aired on the news channels.

Counsel of the PEMRA apprised that the aim of issuing the show-cause notice is only to air speech delayed as per the set procedure, as per the counsel the instructions were not for a particular person.

Honourable Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that why there is no implementation on the delaying live transmission policy? adding that the people of high repute give irresponsible statements.

The CJ said that if the PEMRA implements its law then the court will not interfere in its matter.

Justice Athar Minallah addressing counsel of the PTI chief barrister Ali Zafar asked that do you expect the court gives license over the irresponsible statements of this sought? in which conditions are marred by the country ? do political leadership is like this?.

The CJ categorically said that don’t expect any concession from the court while the court disposed of the Imran Khan petition against the PEMRA.

On the court questions, the PEMRA counsel insisting the court to dispose of the case said that the policy of time delay in transmission of live coverage will be implemented strictly.
