Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday heard a petition after four years seeking release of Pakistani citizen Dr Afia Siddique detained in the USA.
Justice Amir Farooq of the IHC heard the petition for releasing Dr Afia Siddique from the USA. While a leader of free Afia Movement leader Dr Fozia Siddique appeared before the court along with her counsel Sajid Qureshi.
Deputy Attorney General Raja Khalid Mahmood appeared before the court from behalf of the federal government while he presented a detailed report from behalf of the foreign ministry.
Justice Amir Farooq remarked that we are standing in this case at the same position where we were four years ago. Providing protection to every citizen is the duty of the state while he called authorized officer of foreign ministry to apprise what the ministry has done so far in this case.
The court also directed the deputy attorney general to present detail report and ordered joint secretary of foreign ministry to appear before the court in the personal capacity.
The hearing adjourned till February 10.
