ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has issued a notice to the Islamic Ideological Council (IIC) regarding allegations that Engineer Ali Mirza described the council as blasphemous. The court has also summoned the Attorney General to provide legal assistance on the matter by November 5th.
Additionally, notices have been served to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), directing them to submit their responses.Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court conducted a hearing on a petition filed by Dr. Aslam Khaki. The petitioner appeared in person and stated that the Islamic Ideological Council comprises reputable scholars, and he claimed that Mirza had called the council blasphemous. The court inquired how the petitioner was defending the accused, asking why Mirza himself was not challenging the council’s resolution.
The petitioner responded that he has previously faced similar fatwas himself and has gone through such accusations. He argued that Engineer Ali Mirza has challenged many, but now he is being targeted because he has “stood up against everyone.” He further contended that Mirza should be brought before a court before being accused without clear evidence.
Justice Kayani asked whether there was a case registered against Mirza in Jhelum. The petitioner clarified that he has challenged the resolution of the Islamic Ideological Council in court. He added that the matter was referred to the council by the Cyber Crime Investigation Agency for assistance, although, according to law, the President, Governor, or Parliament can request the council’s opinion.
The court observed that the record would reveal the nature of the allegations and the statement in question. The judge said that after hearing the Attorney General, a decision would be made on whether the petition is admissible. The case was adjourned until November 5th for further proceedings.
