IHC Moved Against Nawaz’s Election as PML-N Chief

Islamabad (October 7, 2017): A petition was filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the re-election of Nawaz Sharif as President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

A lawyer Makhdoom Niaz Inqilabi has filed the petition seeking the court to declare the election of Nawaz Sharif as president of PML-N null and void.

The petitioner has also sought the court to issue restraining order, stopping Nawaz from political activities as president of the party.The lawyer has taken the plea that applications against Nawaz Sharif’s heading the party and for cancellation of PML-N registration with ECP as political party were pending.

He pleaded that till the disposal of the pending application, implementation on section 203 and 232 of Election Act be stayed.The lawyers has also pleaded the court to declare the Election Act 2017 as ultra vires of the constitution.

It is to be mentioned here that recently General Council of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has re-elected Nawaz Sharif as party chief by amending its constitution allowing a person ineligible or disqualified to be member of the parliament to head the party.
