IHC Orders To Release PTI’s Senator Azam Swati After Granting Him Bail

Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday granted bail after arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Azam Swati in the disputed tweet case.

Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Amir Farooq heard the bail petition of Azam Swati.

At the outset of the hearing counsel of Azam Swati asked permission from the CJ to read a letter of his client addressed to him , to which, the court said that the letter is in the custody of the court and we wanted to set the matter for good.

Justice Amir Farooq said that a larger bench will be formed on the matter adding that a letter is brought to court that a judge is not partial. The CJ said that usually the court doesn’t see such kinds of letters.

To which, Baber Awan insisted the court to see into the matter today. The CJ said that the formation of larger bench today is not possible.

Baber Awan apprised the court that he has requested the son of Azam Swati to withdraw the letter. On which, Azam Swati son withdrew no confidence letter on the CJ from the court.

On the other hand, prosecutor in the case argued that Sindh and Baluchistan high courts had quashed cases against Azam Swati adding that he didn’t see any such FIR which doesn’t contain time and place of incident.

To which, the CJ IHC remarked “You are saying that SOPs were not followed.”

During course of the hearing Deputy Attorney General insisted the court to give him more time for arguments.

Moreover, the court reserved the verdict on the Azam Swati bail petition.

Later, the IHC pronounced the reserved judgement granted Senator Azam Swati bail after the arrest and ordered to release him on behalf of the surety bonds of Rs 200000,
