IHC petition filed for recovery of missing woman, Falak Javaid

ISLAMABAD: A petition was submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday by the father of Sanam Javaid  a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist seeking the recovery of his daughter, Falak Javaid, who has reportedly gone missing.

The plea was filed through Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq on behalf of petitioner Javaid Iqbal. It urged the court to direct relevant authorities to produce Falak Javaid before the court and to disclose whether she is facing any legal cases or investigations. The petition also called for the matter to be heard on an urgent basis.

This development follows recent legal troubles involving Sanam Javaid. In June, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted her bail in a case accusing her of posting anti-state content online and inciting violence. The bail was granted by Justice Farooq Haider, who ordered her release upon submission of a surety bond worth Rs500,000.

Earlier this month, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had taken Sanam Javaid into custody under charges related to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code, alleging that she spread material contrary to the interests of the state.

Additionally, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi had revoked the interim bail of 15 PTI members, including Sanam Javaid, over their involvement in the November 26 protests. The cancellation was prompted by repeated absences from court proceedings. ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, who presided over the case, noted that the accused had failed to comply with legal obligations despite multiple notices.

Other individuals named in the bail cancellation include Mishal Yusufzai, Raja Basharat, Sami Ibrahim, Javed Kausar, Seemabia Tahir, and Timur Masood, among others. The cases against them were registered at different police stations across Rawalpindi and Attock.

Prosecutor Zahir Shah opposed the exemption pleas, arguing that the accused had been abusing legal leniency and intentionally hampering the investigation process. The court concurred, citing a failure to follow legal procedures, and thus, annulled their bail.
