WEB DESK: Pakistan’s opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq expressed hope that Pakistan will win the remaining two matches of the series against New Zealand.
As per detail, in the first match of the three-match ODI series, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 73 runs, and Imam-ul-Haq was unable to play due to an injury to his right foot.
However, speaking to the media, Imam-ul-Haq said, “What has happened, we can’t dwell on it too much. We are fully hopeful that we will win the remaining two matches of the series.”
According to the opener, “In these conditions, it’s initially tough, but I believe we’ve had enough practice here. There’s a bit of bounce, but once you face 15 to 20 balls, runs start coming.”
Imam-ul-Haq added, “Our bowling unit is new in this series, with the exception of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. The rest of the bowlers are relatively new.”
He further stated, “I feel our team is very strong. We have experienced players in the ODI team, and the players who are part of the team have won many matches for Pakistan. At one point, we had a very strong ODI team, but whatever has happened in the past, let’s forget it. This team has the ability to make a strong comeback.”
Imam-ul-Haq emphasized, “Since the Champions Trophy, the morale of the team has been high, and we’re looking to make a comeback. The success we achieve by fighting in tough conditions will boost the team’s morale.”
The national batsman also mentioned, “I have played with the team for 6-8 years. When a player doesn’t get a place in the team, it becomes a learning process for them. For the past 6-7 months, I have played all types of domestic cricket, which has been helpful.”
Furthermore, he added, “I don’t set big goals for myself, as goals can put pressure on you. My focus is always on contributing to the team’s victory whenever I step onto the field.”
