Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi facing lack of winter necessities in jail, Says CM KP

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi stated on Friday that former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are being unlawfully detained and subjected to prolonged solitary confinement.

Speaking during a provincial cabinet meeting, Afridi highlighted that Khan and his wife are not being provided with essential winter necessities in jail. He condemned the use of water cannons against Khan’s sisters as well as their reported humiliation, labeling such actions as disgraceful.

The chief minister expressed the provincial government’s strong disapproval of this unjust and inhumane treatment. He also welcomed the formation of a subcommittee during the NFC meeting, aimed at safeguarding provincial rights. Headed by the provincial finance advisor, this subcommittee is tasked with preparing recommendations on outstanding financial dues to present to the federal government.

Afridi affirmed that all available political and legal measures would be employed to secure the province’s entitlements. He directed the finance department to dispatch weekly correspondence to the federal government regarding arrears related to NHP and NFC funds.

He further pointed out that although an annual allocation of Rs 100 billion had been pledged for the merged districts, only Rs 168 billion has been received over seven years, leaving a shortfall of Rs 532 billion.

Additionally, he instructed all departmental heads to ensure weekly updates are sent to the federal authorities regarding pending dues to maintain comprehensive accountability records.
