ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of his sentence and release on bail in the Toshakhana II case, citing serious health concerns including major vision loss in his right eye.
According to court filings submitted by his legal team Barristers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry the former premier has also requested an early hearing in the £190 million reference. The petition argues that his deteriorating medical condition warrants urgent judicial consideration.
The plea states that medical examinations conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences revealed a blood clot that has significantly impaired vision in his right eye. His lawyers claim that his eyesight in that eye has diminished to approximately 15 percent, amounting to an 85 percent loss of vision. They further contend that adequate treatment is not available within prison facilities.
Highlighting his age 73 the petition maintains that continued incarceration could aggravate his condition and that he should be granted bail on medical grounds.
Speaking to reporters, Barrister Salman Safdar said the medical findings were communicated to him directly by the former prime minister after consultations with PIMS doctors. He added that hearings in related cases are expected next week.
The legal team has also urged the court to fix bail applications for both the PTI founder and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, who, according to the counsel, has remained behind bars for nearly a year without securing bail.
Separately, a request has been submitted seeking expedited proceedings in the £190 million case, including suspension of the sentence pending appeal.
